Grounded In Scripture
As we strive to be an intentional congregation we want to affirm our commitment to remain grounded in Scripture. The Scriptures of both the Old Testament and the New Testament are inspired writings and provide the authoritative revelation of God, his gift of salvation, his church and his will for all people. Everything we do as Christians and as a church must have its’ foundation in the Scriptures. The challenge for all believers is to diligently study the Scriptures to grow in knowledge and understanding of God’s will. The challenge with this commitment is that the Bible does not function like an encyclopedia that we can turn to any topic and read what God wants us to do, we must search the Scriptures to understand the heart and mind of God and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us in his will.

Uneasy about change
This weeks topic is uneasy about change and we focused on the passage in 1 Cor 9:19f where Paul says that he became all things to all people in order to save some. As I read Paul’s discussions in 1 Cor 8-10, Romans 14-15, Phil 3, and Col 2 it seems to me that Paul talks about faith as the replacement for following necessary practices. Then with the new freedom that comes from pure and simple faith he could then re-enslave himself to whatever practices allowed him to reach people for Christ or encourage their growth. Practices were not the expression of his faith as much as they were a tool for his ministry. I wonder what it would be like if I were able to allow faith to be not only the assurance of things hoped for, but the ONLY assurance. In the end the question comes to each of us, are we willing to abandon our preferences for the sake of others?
